Poseidon


He was the God of the seas and also Cronus and Rea’s son. Both his father and his mother were gods. His name in Roman mythology it was Neptune. Poseidon had two brothers, Zeus and Hades. They three divided up the world: Zeus got dominion of the sky, Hades become ruler of the Underworld and Poseidon become the King of all the water.

His symbol is trident that means the control in the sea. Poseidon lived in the gold castle in the bottom of the sea. He travelled in horse’s cart. He was a very moody god and also his temperature sometimes was very violence. When he was relax, Poseidon created news lands and calm sea, but when he was angry, the god could cause earthquakes.

Poseidon got married to Anfitres, Nereo and Doris’ daughter. She was a Ninfa of the water. But Poseidon was unfaithful with his wife like his brother Zeus. For that reason, Poseidon had a lot of sons with others women like Triton who was half- man and half fish.

Two of his sons were: Otus and Efialtes. They shup up Ares, the god of the war and persecuted an Artemisia and Hera for kidnap.
The Poseidon's son make angry gods. Poseidon shup up under the land.
In the reign the Olympic, Poseidon reign in the Atlantis.
The Atlantis leaves to liker her, and causes an earthquake.
Poseidon helps to build wall of Troy.
Poseidon and Pélope, the Tantalo's daugther, fell in love. Pélope was lover of Poseidon. For that Poseidon got to Pélope a with wing.

Cupid


Cupid was the god of love and this is his name in the Greek mythology. In the Roman mythology his name is Eros.
His name, Cupid, mean wish. He is the god of the life too. He is represented by a boy with wings and armed.
He was the Venus’ son. Venus was the goddess of the love in Roman mythology, and in Greek mythology she was Aphrodite.
When he threw his arrows to some people, they sentence to fall in love.
Venus, her mother, didn’t understand why Cupid didn’t grow and he continued be a child. For this reason she went to the Oracle of Temis with Cupid. The Oracle said her that “The love can’t grow without passion”. In that moment she didn’t understand the Oracle’s answer until his second son, Anteros, was born. Anteros was the god of the passion, and when the two brothers were together, Cupid grew and he became a handsome man. But if he wasn’t with her bother he returned to be a child.
Cupid met Psique, she was a beautiful princess, and he fell in love. She was mortal so she couldn’t look to him. The Cupid’s mother was jealous and wanted that her son killed her, but he didn’t do it. Finally they got married and they had a son, Voluptas.
Cupid is the most important symbol of the Valentine’s Day, because it’s the lovers’ Day.

Ares

Ares, in the Greek mythology, was the god of the war. His name in the roman mythology was Mars. Her parents were Zeus and Hera. Ares was born in Thrace, the principal place where we can find warlike people. He was one of the Olympian gods. Ares always wears a shield, a lance and a sword. He used to come with his retinue: they were the Pain, the Panic, the Famine and the Oversight. Also he had a bird that was a vulture. Ares loved the war.

When Halirrotio raped Alcipe, Ares’ daughter, he killed him, and for this reason he was judged, the first murder judge of the history. Ares was acquited.

He was force, strength, destructive and vengeful.

Although he was immortal, he was very sensitive to the pain. He has even been accused of coward.

Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus; however Ares and she fell in love and they had an affair. Hephaestus discovered the infidelity of his wife and the god of the fire trapped them in an invisible net. After that, he called all the gods of the Olympus and they could see it with their own eyes.


Other night when he was with Aphrodite, Ares ordered to Alectrión that guarded the door of the room where they were. But appeared other god, Helios, the god of the sun, and he discovered them. For this reason, Ares converted Alectrion in a cockerel, that never forget announce the arrived of the sun every morning.

Ares had a lot of lovers, for example Aphrodite, Cyrene, Eos, Pyrene and Sterope.

The gigantic Aloadae did prisoner him for thirteen months. Finally Ares was released by Hermes.

Once he fought against Heracles, and Ares was defeated. In the other hand, in a lot of others moments, Ares was victorious.


When her mistress Aphrodite loved Adonis, Ares metamorphosed himself in a bear and killed Adonis.

An old tradition tells that Ares kill Poseidon’s son, when this raped the Ares’ daughter.

Although he was an important personage on the mythology and the poetry, Ares didn’t use to be an adored god.


In the roman mythology, Mars was more important that Ares because there he had two sons, Romulus and Remus, who foundered Roma and they did his father the city’s patriarch.

In Athens he had a temple. There, there was a statue of him made by Alcamenes. Also in Sparta there was an old statue, it was a God chained that represented that the victory had never leave Sparta. In Sparta the human sacrifices were offered to Ares like a sign of loyalty. The temples of this God used to be build outside the towns for prevents the enemies.

The stories that speak about Ares and his worship in the different countries of Greece indicate that his devotion was introduced from Thrace.

Nowadays he appears in few Greek monuments, on coins and ornaments.

Aphrodite


Aphrodite was the goddess of love, sexual, rapture and beauty. Venus was her name in roman mythology. She was born when Uranus was castrated by his son Cronus. He threw his genitals into the sea and from the sea foam surfaced the Goddess.

Other gods loved her because she was very beauthy and they started a war. Zeus married her to the God Hephaestus, god of the fire. Her husband made her a magic girdle of finely gold. When she put on the magic girdle, no one could resist her. She loved glamour and happiness and it wasn’t very cool to be Hephaestus’ wife.

She had some mortal lovers, the most famous was Adonis. She also had some sons:

Anteros: He was the god of the passion. He was the Eros' brother, the god of love. He is also the god who punished the people who reject love.

Hymenaios: He is the god of marriage ceremonies, feats and song. He must attend every wedding, if he didn’t, then the marriage would be a disaster. He presided over many of the weddings in Greek mythology.
